Sequences 2 - 5

Project Sequences

The program consists of five project sequences, constituting a series of applied communication projects, all of which must be completed through Westminster College. Each of the sequences consists of several projects, as well as a final capstone project. The projects build upon each other and are completed in the order specified. A student completes all projects to demonstrate mastery of the program learning goals and competencies. Each project has a set of rubrics, which explain precisely how the project will be evaluated upon its completion. Students can use these rubrics to self-assess the projects before submission. After a project sequence is successfully completed, the student begins the next project sequence at the beginning of the following semester.

Challenges to Expect: Finding a Client

This sequence will be the first time you work directly with a client; it can be intimidating to find one. Think about small businesses, local companies, your own workplace. All businesses are in need of communication solutions, and they are always open to 'free' work. Talk with your client and make sure they are okay with you using the work you create for them in your portfolio.

Challenges to Expect: This sequence moves fast!

Sequence 3 is generally offered during the Summer semester, so it's significantly shorter than the other sequences. Make sure you have clients lined up quickly, so you have plenty of time to conduct your research and make your recommendations. Time management is essential.

Challenges to Expect: Project Depth

This sequence offers you the opportunity to work with a client to develop an integrated marketing communication plan and campaign management strategy. Both the individual project and team project evaluate and research current trends and best practices in integrated marketing communications. It's important to have clients quite early on, since you will be conducting research, and developing a complete plan for two clients.

Challenges to Expect: Freedom

A lot of students struggle with brainstorming a capstone project, due to the wide boundaries. You may be someone who likes to be told what to do, and what boundaries to stay in, so work on brainstorming your project between Sequence 4 and Sequence 5. The sky is really the limit, so feel free to dream big! Talk with your faculty mentor to narrow down your ides; if you have a 'pet project' that you haven't gotten to yet, this might be the perfect chance!
